I recently shared on my blog about our time in Bangkok Thailand. We spent about 5 days exploring the city before catching a flight to Phuket. This was the highlight of the trip for me and I wish we would have spent more time exploring.
Unfortunately we had a little wreck on our scooter and scraped our legs up a bit so our plans of island hopping didn’t happen as we spent the next two days chilling at our resort to not risk infection. We still had a great time but I recommend using extreme caution if you do rent a scooter the road conditions can change quickly, there’s lots of germs on the roads and you have to drive prepared for other drivers to make a mistake.
Tips & Tricks
-Rent a Scooter to get around. We spent $7 a day and it was the perfect way to get around. Always wear a helmet, thank God we had one on when we had our little incident with the pavement. Also maybe this is my ptsd speaking but drive slow. Just don’t risk road-rash, its not worth it.
-Be careful with the food. There’s some amazing food to be found in Phuket. But do a little google search to verify the restaurants before trying. If your going to eat street food a few tips are look for stalls with long lines or watch them prepare the food before eating.
-We hopped from Resort to Resort and next time I would definitely only stay in one spot. It gives you more time to explore Phuket.
-Spend some time before your trip making a list of things you would like to see and do while in Phuket. Its such a rich place with so much to do and see. My husband and I are the type of travelers that fly by the seat of their pants and we’ve had some amazing times because of this. But we both said a few times on this trip to Thailand that we wish we would have spent a few days planning out what we wanted to do and where to go to make sure we didn’t miss any of the spots we wanted to see.
-If you can get an international license before you leave do it. The cops target tourists and we got a ticket because we didn’t have one even though its not required for scooter rentals. While we were paying it at the police station I saw three other tourists coming in to pay the same fine.
-Wear Sunscreen to protect yourself from sunburn.
What to Pack for A Trip to Phuket
If your staying for a week anywhere in Thailand I would recommend bringing
-2 to 3 pairs of Shorts, I reused mine a few times
-3-4 Tee-shirts or breezy tops
-Long sleeve water shirt for snorkeling
-2-3 swimsuits or bikini sets
-Breezy Pants
-A swim cover
-1-2 Light dresses
-A light sweater for the evenings
-Long sleeve linen button down
-Good quality sunscreen
-Lotion & After sun oil
-A good pair of walking shoes
-Leather Sandals

The highlight of the trip to Phuket for me was all the time we spent snorkeling. We ended up buying snorkel gear since we wanted to bring it home. We went to a store that was definitely geared to tourists, next time I would buy one from a street vendor for half the price.
There’s reefs along a lot of the beaches and you can spend a lot of time swimming around and exploring. We went to Freedom Beach and Kata Noi.
Freedom Beach: Great snorkeling, there may be a different entrance that we missed but the route we took to get there required a 15 minute hike and was exhausting.
Kata Noi Beach: No hike required, slightly murkier water but still a great spot. Be careful when your in the water as the beaches tend to get busy during the day and I had someone who was snorkeling and not paying attention womp me over the head with an over enthusiastic hand and then swim away mindless as I struggled not to drown from my mask being tugged down and filled with water.

All in all we had a wonderful time in Phuket Thailand and I would love to visit again. If you find yourself in Thailand let me know what you recommend!
