Recently I got to check off a huge goal of mine. Making my way from San Jose with my husband all the way to Bangkok Thailand where we spent a few incredible days exploring the city and eating delicious food before heading off to Phuket. I’ll be sharing more about what we did while in Bangkok in this post.
Bangkok is a really special city, it boasts amazing scenery, beautiful temples, great nightlife, markets with all sorts of vendors, some really delicious food and shopping malls that are truly one of a kind. Four days wasn’t nearly enough time to see everything this vibrant bustling city has to offer but we sure enjoyed our time exploring.
The city is huge with roughly 11.2 million people making it the most populated city in Thailand. The best time to visit is November-February for milder weather. March-June is the hottest season and rainy season is May till October. We went in Early February and gave around $850 out of San Francisco for round trip flights. However you can find better travel prices if you go on the off season and don’t mind the weather.

Tips & Tricks
-Use the Bolt app for booking rides and taxis for the best price.
-Exchange your money at the Yellow atms for good rates or before leaving the airport. $1 American currency is currently 34 Thai Baht
-Don’t trust ice cubes unless your at a more upscale dining place. You can always ask if they use bottled water to make their ice cubes.
-You will need to dress modestly at the temples or they may deny you entry. You can find street vendors selling scarves and elephant pants all around the temple entrances.
-Make sure to pack comfortable shoes, you’ll be walking a ton!
-$50 a day is a comfortable budget while in Bangkok, per person not counting your hotel stay. This will get you plenty of food, coffees and experiences. We spent around $100 a night for comfortable hotel stays.

Places I Recommend Visiting While in Bangkok
-The Malls, we visited “Emsphere & Siam Square great food, live music and cool shopping experience.
-The Bed Cinema, We went to the one inside the mall. We spent $34 a ticket, that included all the popcorn, drinks and coffee we could consume as well as other snacks. They also provide blankets and slippers. This was such a unique experience and felt very luxurious.
-Ride the Ferry and explore one of the vibrant and bustling markets. You can find delicious food, bargain prices and great coffee.
-Lumpinee Boxing Stadium, The historical stadium in Bangkok is a must if you like Muay Thai, plan your visit around one of the weekly matches.
-Lumphini Park, The first Public Park in Bangkok. We took a free peddle boat ride around the lake, walked the trail and enjoyed the ambiance. They also have group fitness activities and its a fun place to spend an afternoon.
-Try Pad Thai, Mango Sticky rice, tom yum soup and more! Yaowarat Road and Sukhumvit Soi 38 are great street food spots.
-The Grand Palace is a complex of buildings at the heart of Bangkok, Thailand. The palace has been the official residence of the Kings of Siam since 1782. The king, his court, and his royal government were based on the grounds of the palace until 1925. Super interesting to look around. The murals are amazing.

Places I Would Visit Next Time
-Wat Pho (Home of the Reclining Buddha)
-Damnoen Saduak Floating Market
-Sky Bar at Lebua State Tower
-Maeklong Railway market and nearby attractions
-A River Tour

What I Enjoyed Most about Our time In Bangkok
The city is bustling and vibrant but very budget friendly. You can do a lot on a small budget. I really enjoyed the malls and street markets. I’m not a huge fan of bar hopping and I don’t drink so we didn’t check out any of the nightlife.
My favorite food was actually inside the mall at one of the Michelin recognized restaurants. Some of the best ramen I’ve had in my life was found at one of the food spots.

All in all we had a fantastic time in Thailand and I hope to visit again! If you’ve been let me know what your favorite parts were!
Stay tuned, – I’ll be sharing more about our time in Thailand in the next few days.
Cheers -Liz
